Ga-Rai

Type: Manga (with an anime prequel)
Status: Complete (15 episode in the prequel)

Premise: Nimura Kensuke can see ghosts, normally they are harmless and only mildly irritating so he mostly just ignores them but when he gets attacked by a hoard of undead babies he runs for his life screaming like a little girl. Kagura is an exorcist, when she hits Nimura with her Vespa during his undignified sprint for his life she comes to his rescue and informs him that hes got what it takes (the seeing ghosts part not the girlish screaming) to become a government licensed exorcist for the ministry of the environment.

Thoughts: This was a terrific manga that blended traditional Japanese mythology and spirituality with a solid exorcism geared storyline, I particularly enjoyed how true they were to ancient myths and legends; each demon or spirit they encountered was an actual myth from Japan and they adhered to the traditional practices even while playing within the boundaries of a manga format.

Prose: Excellent storyline with a blend of ideas, this manga was serious when it needed to be and playful and fun as well. A really well rounded manga.

Cons: It's over?

-Notes: The anime is a prequel to the manga and is subbed only, it tels the story of Kagura and Yomi and fills in many of the unanswered questions regarding what happened before the manga starts. The prequel was produced after the manga and was intended to be viewed after the completion of the story, by doing it this way it gives a sense of foreshadowing to the entire series that is quite moving. On the other hand if you were to watch it in chronological order it would give a more detailed history and explain things to you more clearly. There is no wrong order to watch it in. By the way the anime is AWESOME, it is a sad story that really adds depth to the entire series.

8.5/10          (The weapons are more hilarious than deadly.)

XS Hybrid

Type: Manga
Status: Ongoing

Premise: The brain is essentially a biological computer, storing data, running systems and processing information; but what if this data could be accessed? What if this computer could be altered or reprogrammed? A hybrid is someone who has undergone a reprogramming of their brain creating a dormant personality with high combat ability that is completely separate from their own consciousness. Mina is a seemingly normal girl but as something deep inside of her begins to awaken she is targeted as a person of interest in the existence of hybrids. Hinchang has been friends with Mina since childhood, now wanting to protect her from those who have targeted her he is dragged into a world of hybrids that few have ever survived, but Mina is not the only one with something inside of her...

Thoughts: This is an interesting idea they have created here, were not a single character realy understands what is happening to and around them. This sometimes ends up being rather annoying as it rely hinders the pace of the manga but at the same time it gives it a realism that is refreshing.

Prose: Interesting ideas with a mysterious plot that unravels like an union, one layer at a time never letting you see what is at its core.

Cons: It can be painfully slow to read, I am on chapter 30 and still know virtually nothing.

-Notes: This manga may have been canceled, I'm not sure of this but it hasn't gotten a new chapter since I have read it (a fair time ago) and there is no news of when to expect another one.

7.5/10          (Ctrl Alt Delete)

X Blade

Type: Manga
Status: Ongoing

Premise: Four Years ago a disaster of titanic proportions claimed 2 million lives in the streets of Tokyo, only 2 people survived the apocalyptic event including those rescue workers who went in afterwards to aid any survivors; a young boy named Morisaki Harumi and a female rescue worker who pulled him from the rubble without his memories. Now his past is coming back to haunt him, when a car runs him off the road and two men wielding katana fight to the death he grabs the closest thing on hand a third katana; her name is Mana and she is the spirit of a young girl who died 300 years ago.

Thoughts: Another good sword story, there is enough new material in this story to make it rather distinkt; be it the people trapped in swords (not sure if they need to be female, but they have been so far) or the century spanning plot devices this manga comes across as classical in its execution if not it's ideas.

Prose: A comfortable story, not overly complicated in its premise it still retains a sense of uniqueness.

Cons: There is nothing ground breaking to this story, the plot is linear in its progression and while not predictable it is not that complicated either.

-Notes: Yay swords?

8/10          (You know your in an anime when swords starts talking to you.)

Shut Hell

Type: Manga
Status: Ongoing

Premise: Among the Mongol tribes there is a legend of a daemon, a female worrier wering the pelt of an enormous wolf who slaughters with all the ferocity of a wild animal, this is the story of Shut Hell the evil one. To Sudou all it was was a dream, incredibly vivid mind you but a dream none the less; but when events in his life begin to coincide with what he is more and more frequently seeing in those dreams and he meets a mysterious girl who look alarmingly similar to someone who should have died over 800 years ago he begins to wonder. Yurull is a 10 year old Khan prince living among the Mongol tribes, his love of reading has led him to his enemies, the Tengut's writings but now he worries for the future that awaits these Mongol tribes.

Thoughts: This manga has an interesting layout, it uses 3 separate timelines as a way to tell the story. First is the present (ours) with Sudou dreaming of Shut Hell, second is the present (Shut Hell's and Yurull's) and third flash back's to what has happened to Shut Hell and Yurull. It all seams confusing as I write it but actually it all comes together flawlessly and creates some vary dramatic moments, we also are left with the looming question of how each of these timelines will eventually connect.

Prose: Innovative use of timelines, tremendous action sequences and a surreal almost dreamlike feeling to the writing style makes for a truly original concept for this manga.

Cons: The manga is at a point right now were there are 100 times the questions than there are answers, not really their fault, and actually it makes you kind of desperate to read more so kudos to the writers; but it is maddening at the same time.

-Notes: Give this one some time to fill itself out. Also the site I use is not completely up to date on the releases of this manga, it shows as having 19 chapters so far were as there are as many as 22 on other sites.

8/10          (The wolf was a sacred animal to the Mongol tribes representing the perfect hunter.)

Immortal Regis/ Cavalier of the Abyss

Type: Manga
Status: Ongoing

Premise: When Jae Hyuk stumbled into a battle between a young girl dressed in black and a demon he was accidentally blown in half by her final blow, Serin a prodigy among her family "The Damon Clan" known for its sorcerers and necromancers feeling guilty revives him as an undead bound to her as a protector for the rest of his now immortal existence needing to drink her blood once every 3 days in order to maintain the magic keeping him alive. Jea Hyuk must now accompany Serin back to her world; Chaos is an alternate plane of existence rich in magic and the occult enrolling in the academy for magical training in order to understand his newfound powers. Along with Serin and his intelligent female sword Depore he must learn to cope in a situation were the slightest mistake could cost him his life.....again.

Thoughts: This is a thrilling story that blends dark occult mythology with a strong storyline with a healthy amount of romance as well. I greatly enjoyed the world of Chaos, a rich and vibrant setting that blends a seemingly normal existence with dark themes and evil intent seamlessly creating a scene that is both familiar and alien simultaneously.

Prose: Great setting along with weighty character interaction gives us a great framework for the story, packed in together with the occult and fantasy elements that I love so much makes this an instant favorite of mine.

Cons: I would have liked a little more flushing out of the various magic and powers in the setting, giving us a framework to build off of would have helped the understanding greatly, but this has taken a back seat to the romantic side of the manga which admittedly is vary good; to each their own I guess.

-Notes: The second series that follows Immortal Regis is Cavalier of the Abyss, it is set several years following the final scene of I. R. and things have changed dramatically. MAKE SURE YOU READ THEM IN ORDER or else you will be completely lost, get the entire plot spoiled for you and in general screw up the rest of the series.

8.5/10          (UHG necrophilia.....)

The Sacred Blacksmith

Type: Anime & Manga
Status: Anime - Complete (12 episodes)    Manga - Ongoing

Premise: In a bloody war between countries a frightening weapon was pitted against the enemy, The Demon Contract. By reading this contract written on your hear (literally) humans are able to barter away their body and soul for great power so people going as far as to give themselves over entirely transforming themselves into blood thirsty demons. Now years after the war has ended and the practice has been outlawed this dark art is no longer limited to the battlefield, Cicily Campbell is a minor noble and a knight in the town watch but when she meets a mysterious blacksmith with an unusual sword her life collides with the remnants of the last war.

Thoughts: This story is nothing to write home about but it does do the fundamentals well, good setting combined with a variety of characters and nice action sequences resulting in a solid story.

Prose: Nothing outstanding to report, but it does have a good setting.

Cons: No major faults either.

-Notes: Anime is fully dubbed. Relatively new so give it some time to establish itself.

7.5/10          (There the Japanese go again flaunting their pretty swords.)

World Embryo

Type: Manga
Status: Ongoing

Premise: There is a virus spreading throughout the world killing people in the most gruesome of fashions, not one of microbes and parasites but a computer virus delivered directly into your brain via your cell phone. Once infected by the virus humans react violently and transform into bloodthirsty beasts bent on infecting more people and slaughtering the rest. "F.L.A.G." is a special division of an international cell phone company who are responsible for the extermination of these mutations, they do it in secret as a way to avert panic and economic repercussions to themselves. Riku Amami who lost his sister in a fire at the local hospital receives a text message from her telling him to come to the hospital, he is caught up in a battle between 2 F.L.A.G. members and a group of mutants and is saved by a mysterious cocoon he finds that then hatches into a baby girl that has a striking resemblance to his long lost sister; now he must figure out what happened all those years ago and how all of these events tie together.

Thoughts: An interesting world has been developed in this manga where modern day technology and culture is mashed together with the classic monster hunter theme creating a rich and interesting middle ground that is extremely enjoyable to read.

Prose: Interesting setting, with well motivated characters that each have their own depth of personality creating strong 3 dimensional characters. These characters are the best part of the manga because each is broken or desperate in their own way making them fight tooth and nail to retrieve what they have lost.

Cons: There are some failings in the plot were you are left thinking "well that was pointless" or "why the hell did he do that" which strikes me as lazy writing.

-Notes: There is something that happens in the story to Riku that could have been an interesting and truely defining part of his character but instead it is glossed over without a second thought, this was SO anoying to me that I almost stopped reading (and you will come to understand my frustration once you see it) but I am glad I didn't because it is a nice story otherwise.

8/10          (There are bad ideas then there are BAD IDEAS.)

Witch Hunter

Type: Manga
Status: Ongoing

Premise: In the last war witches attacked humanity in an attempt to put the entire world under their control, but thanks to several humans with extremely powerful spiritual abilities humanity was able to hold on and eventually defeat the united strength of the witches, these saviors of humanity were dubbed Witch Hunters. Years after the great war the WH is now an extremely influential group of individuals that search out and destroy any witches that threaten humanity along with several witches of similar mind to their own. Tasha Godspell is an elite Witch Hunter being unique due to the fact that he is the only male who displays the ability to produce mana and by extension use magic, along with his supporter (Familiar?) Halloween (another seemingly female/witch ability) he fights witches but can't bring himself to hate them.

Thoughts: This story is an interesting mix of classic fantasy witches, Arthurian legend (ie. Merlin, Lancelot, Mordred, etc.) and good old fashioned manga action. The plot is well thought out and keeps a sense of mystery which drives you to read more.

Prose: Great plot (especially the Arthurian twist), well thought out setting in regards to witches and powers and true to classic mythology regarding witches and the lore that surrounds them.

Cons: The other Witch Hunters are actually rather annoying as far as characters go, and at one point we have 3 identical twins named Lee, Yue and Xing and for a period of time they switch names..... those were some confusing chapters.

-Notes: I should read up on Arthurian legends.......

8.5/10          (What improved familiar should have been.)

Toaru Majutsu no Index

Type: Anime
Status: Complete (2 seasons total 48 episodes, 1 side story 24 episodes)

Premise: In a city of science superhuman students are taught how to control the powers that they manifest and are in tern expected to participate in experimentation in order to further research this reinsurance. Toma Kamijo is a level 0 (a student of negligible skill but the potential to manifest powers if properly instructed) the thing is he actually has a power "the ability to nullify any other ability" which can't actually be measured because it nullifies all attempts to classify it, so he continues along his boring life taking boring lessons and cursing his lot in life.... such misfortune. One morning when he goes outside onto the deck of his 4th story apartment he finds a nun lying face down passed out from hunger; from that point on he is dragged into the world of religion, the occult, magic, and a crazy little nun in training with a photographic memory that read 103,000 magic grimoires..... such misfortune.

Thoughts: This is actually a pretty good anime, it is a little long winded at times and has a tendency to be overly complicated for its own good, but it has some good ideas behind it and along with funny and interesting characters makes it interesting and an easy anime to watch.

Prose: Funny and interesting cast of characters, impressive set of powers and an innovative mix of science and magic makes for a nice light anime.

Cons: Overly complicated for its own good. This anime could have been streamlined quite easily and it would have greatly simplified the plot and allowed for a more interesting interaction between the 2 sides of powers (Science vs. magic).

-Notes: Subbed only. The side story is actually vary good and adds allot of interesting things to the anime as well as actually giving us a character with visible (and awe-inspiring) powers, do not skip it because it is just as good as the main plot.

7.5/10          (Such misfortune.....)

Hyakka Ryouran: Samurai Girls

Type: Anime
Status: Complete (12 episodes)

Premise: The Tokugawa Shogunate (the system of government that enforced strict class hierarchy inforced by the samurai) never lost power and instead thrived, generals who have the ability to awaken the worrier spirit within people have continued to enforce the will of the Damyo resulting in a new period of peace in an iron grip.  Yagyuu Muneakira is a Samurai with a strict code of honor, he defends 2 women being attacked by ninja and is branded a traitor only to be saved by a naked girl who fell from the sky steals a kiss from him and proceeds to slaughter the ninja (its complicated, watch the first episode I can't explain....)

Thaughts: This anime is out there...... RELY out there. If you make it through the first 2.5 minutes then you start to appreciate this anime as having a rather ambitious idea behind it with a visual style that I have never seen used in any way close to this. An intriguing concept but this is NOT a standard anime so be prepared to broaden your horizons.

Prose: The art style for this anime is AMAZING, it is done in a way to make the entire scene look like an ink painting things like ink drops and splatter effects (not limited to fighting) are common giving it an extremely distinctive look and feel. They went all out for the setting as well, everything is modeled after Edo era japan with allot of culture packed into every detail of the anime.

Cons: OUT THERE. You will need to suspend disbelief when you start watching this because the creators were going for the wow factor rather than a believable storyline, things like walking on air and other seudo physics are the name of the game.

-Notes: Fully dubbed.

8/10          (Those first 2.5 minutes are something aren't they?)

Sengoku Strays

Type: Manga
Status: Ongoing

Premise: Kusanagi is a high school student who loves kendo, she is the best in the school even though she is only a freshman, good thing to because on her way home from school one day she picks up an antique katana that fell out of a passing car and was hit by a delivery truck. When she woke up in the sengoku era she was rather confused as you may imagine but now she must learn to survive in a country in the middle of a revolution and make herself useful until she can figure out how or if she can get back home.

Thoughts: The plot is kind of cliche I understand but it is still a rather nice manga, it is easy to read and has good action scenes and an interesting mix of characters so I rather enjoyed it.

Prose: Good action, interesting characters, with enough history to it to make it believable (minus the time travel of course).

Cons: The plot is rather standard fare with no real unexpected twists, it is more real life historical adventure with a single inexplicable event so it end up being a little bland.

-Notes: It is a rather new manga and as such it could wait until a few more chapters are released befor you make the effort to start it.

8/10          (This all could be a rather large concussion but MEH.....)

Hitogatana

Type: Manga
Status: Ongoing

Premise: Katana are the newest weapons to hit the streets of Japan, they are mechanical robots controlled by operators by linking all of their senses to that of the machine effectively possessing the katana for a limited time. They range in size from that of a person to the size of  building and are far stronger and faster than any human could hope to be. The government has set up its own organization with its own task force of katana operators as a way to counter these criminals.

Thoughts: An interesting new concept on the mecha franchise and I am interested to see what they make of this innovative new idea.

Prose: Innovative ideas and an interesting world. The plot also appears to be shaping up nicely.

Cons: The biggest draw back at this point is that the manga has only just started and has yet to get its feet under it yet, given a little more time I think we could have a winner but right now we are left with an incomplete picture of what is happening.

- Notes: Give this one some time before reading it, but I still highly recommend it to anyone interested in the mecha franchise and who is looking for a new twist.

8/10          (At what point does one cease to be human?)

BB Project

Type: Manga
Status: Complete/Cancelled

Premise: The Black Boat Project is a tournament between rival gangs in the city of Kyoto, some of them want all the foreigners out of their country others want to live peaceably. In the underground an accommodation has been reached; once a year the beast fighters from each gang will participate in a tournament to decide the policy on immigrants and all the gangs must obey the outcome or suffer the united wrath of the opposing side. Frank is an exchange student from France who is more interested in video games and the local women then his schooling but once he gets pulled into the BB Project he finds that he may be better off putting his motivation into fighting rather than school instead (At leas he's got hi priorities straight...).

Thoughts: Street Fighter meets Dragon Ball Z. This manga is a great piece of work and has a real atmosphere and setting to it, you will come to like the characters rather quickly and the action is great. A top notch manga.

Prose: Great setting, lovely art, well translated, strong fight scenes, all in all a great fight story.

Cons: Nothing rely, but remember that this is an unrepentant fight story.

- Notes: Well crap. I can't believe they cancelled the series and just at a cliff hanger to, bad form people bad form.

9/10          (Frank is amazing FYI)

Gurren Lagann

Type: Anime
Status: Complete (26 episodes)

Premise: Centuries ago humanity fled underground and now live in enormous underground caverns and have even forgotten that there is such a thing as "The Surface". Simon the digger is a shy kid who found a pretty glowing spiral thingy when excavating a tunnel and then his world turned upside down. The ceiling collapses, a giant robot falls into town, his brother Kamina decides this is the perfect opponent to test his manliness against and  a girl in a bikini carrying a rifle digger than he is lands on top of him. There are some things on the surface that just defy explanation.

Thoughts: This was an amusing anime because it was so freaking ludicrous. From the begging to the end things are over the top, hilarious and completely random to a point were you stop watching for any real intention of enjoying the story telling and instead just wanting to see what the hell is going to happen next.

Prose: The comedy is excellent, and the animation and dubbing is top notch. Those are the things you watch this program for because thats pretty well all its got going for it (Though it has it in spades).

Cons: Plot? What plot? WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK WE ARE, WE DON'T NEED NO STINKING PLOT!!!!!

- Notes: Fully dubbed. To watch this anime you need to be in a certain frame of mind, if your serious about it you will be severly disappointed.

8/10          (The words that come out of Kamina's mouth still confuse me....)

Kaze No Stigma

Moribito

Type: Anime
Status: Complete (26 episodes)

Premise: The emperors sun has been implanted with the egg of a water demon and the assassins are coming by his order to silence him forever. His mother in a desperate attempt to save her son entrusts him to a wandering bodyguard and instructs her to take him as far away from the palace as possible and keep him safe and never return. This is the story of a boy trapped by his own fate, a woman trapped by her past and a king trapped by his obligation.

Thoughts: This anime has the feel of a movie divided into 26 half hour scenes. The quality of this production is extraordinary from its film level animation and dubbing to an intricate plot in a setting all its own this peice oozes perfection.

Prose: Micro movies...... really good.

Cons: There is a definite lack of action in a story centered on a bodyguard, the fight scenes are extraordinarily just like the rest of it but it struck me as odd how few there were.

-Notes: Fully dubbed. This series would be a great one to marathon because of its movie like quality so I highly recommend you set some time aside when you decide to watch it.

8.5/10          (That spear was sheathed more often then it was drawn...)

Witch Hunter Robin

Type: Anime
Status: Complete (26 episodes)

Premise: Witches are real and they live among us. Those individuals who develope abilities like ESP and telekineses often become dangerous to those around them and a devision of the government has been set up to deal with these extremely dangerous people; there is only one way to fight witches with such overwhelming abilities however and that is with other witches who have yet to give into dark teachings. Robin is an extraordinarily powerful talent user who has been assigned to the Tokyo branch where the main goal is to capture witches alive for further study.

Thoughts: This was a well crafted drama that is highly character driven and a looming plot that is reminiscent of something akin to X-files. The plot is brisk and seamless keeping it going. The action is few and far between but well worth the wait with wonderful visuals.

Prose: Compelling story, great animation, deep and individual characters and a tremendous visual style. A nice and solid anime that has you unsure of who to trust or who is the true enemy.

Cons: The plot is slow to build and at times downright cryptic but well worth the wait, the dubbing is less than perfect but not bad enough to interfere with the story.

-Notes: Fully dubbed.

8/10          (The good guys are killers of a colder and more calculating sort)

Eureka 7

Type: Anime & Manga
Status: Complete ( 50 episodes + movie)

Premise: Renton Thurston a boy living a boring life in boring town with his boring grandfather is rather shocked when a LFO (a mech) lands on-top of his house completely destroying it. The Nirvage mk.0 is a machine belonging to the renegade group known as Gecostate, after a pitched firefight were Renton saves the young woman piloting the Nirvage he is "abducted" by them and joins the crew of ne'er-do-wells and anarchists. This story is about the life of Renton Thurston, a boy who was board of his life until a young woman destroyed his house and taught him that there are some things worth living for.
(Side Note: The girls name is "E-eu-de-ca" spelled Eureka, the pronunciation stemming from the original pronunciation in Greek)

Thoughts: This was a wonderful anime that had huge overtones to it, many themes that really hit home and brought you into the story. I really enjoyed it and might actually RE-watch this one (I watched it several years ago and just found out I missed a few side plots). *Just re-watched it and it was twice as good as I remembered!

Prose: Animation, voicing, acting (yes I go as far as to call this one acting), music, plot, characters, action, world...... It was stupendous.

Cons: The beginning is a tad slow (episodes 3~15 depending on how you look at it) due to the fact that is almost entirely character/world building the thing is the main plot starts going off at that point and doesn't stop till the end. I guess...... well the "puppy love" aspect kind of got monotonous at times but that was again part of its charm, rely not so much a complaint here as a style choice.

-Notes: Fully dubbed, movie as well. Apparently the movie was actually featured in the Montreal Foreign Film Festival in 2009 (Missed it by THAT MUCH!). It is a rather large departure from the anime and attempts to show an alternate version of events that still use Renton and Erueka as the main characters but in a drastically revised plot in the same setting, basically they made a movie for the masses that have not previously seen the anime while still giving their followers something new. Vary enjoyable and funny when things you thought would happen actually are completely wrong in the alternate version. Watch the anime first THEN the movie as there are some references that are hidden for previous viewers

9.5/10          (Surf culture never looked so cool)

Mobile Suit Gundam 00

Type: Anime
Status: Complete (50 episodes + movie)

Premise: A group of highly skilled pilots flying in advanced mobile suits known as Gundams are on a mission to eradicate all war through armed intervention. This group known simply as "Celestial Being" is composed of people who have lost all that they cherish to war and now fight to stop it. By making an enemy of every side and being victorious they intend to present a unifying enemy for their opposition and eventually a universal peace.

Thoughts: Though not to the same level as Gundam Seed this is also a relatively good mecha that shows again why this franchise holds the title of king of mecha.

Prose: Excellent action, interesting if somewhat screwed up main characters, and gloriously well animated and voiced.

Cons: The main plot is rather far fetched and no one appears to realize it. Code Geass had basically the same idea but executed many times better than here.

-Notes: Fully dubbed excluding the movie. Might want to skip that movie IMHO it was rather poor and kind of ruined a perfectly good ending to the anime.

7/10          (How many screwed up nut cases does it take to screw in a light bulb?)

Mobile Suit Gundam Seed

Type: Anime
Status: Complete (51 episodes, Destiny 50 episodes)

Premise: Humanity is now able to play with DNA to an extent were individual characteristics can be modified to create the perfect offspring, these "Coordinators" are superior physically and mentally to normal humans and excel beyond normal human limitation. Discrimination against these coordinators begins to turn violent and many decide to create a new home and turn to space creating enormous space colonies were they will be accepted for who they are. Eventually naming themselves as independent from earth the resentment towards those who forced them to leave grows and results in a war between the two groups, where the coordinators use their superior abilities along with latest weapons the mobile suits (mecha) to give themselves a distinct edge.

Thoughts: Probably the epitome of the mecha genre this anime uses great plot with a well established time line in order to deliver a truly engrossing experience. The difference about this anime is that this is a real physics environment using machines that can break and fall apart not giant machines that work because they say so. This is the mecha which all others are compared to.

Prose: Engrossing story, rich world, interesting characters, strong action. This anime is a real masterpiece.

Cons: This is a hardcore mecha storyline so critics of the genre will be disinclined to watch it (though this would be the one to change their mind if they did).

-Notes: Fully dubbed. Second season was a little bit weaker than the first but still a great watch.

9/10          (Choosing a side to root for has never been harder)

Friday 1 April 2011

Hellsing

Type: 2 Anime & Manga (Hellsing, Hellsing Ultimate)
Status: Complete (13 episodes, Ultimate: 7 mini-movie episodes)

Premise: A secret organization within the British government working behind the scenes has been preserving the peace for centuries their goal; the total destruction of vampires an all other occult lore. Hellsing employing crack troops and cutting edge technology have held out but nothing is to compare to their ultimate vampire hunter, Alucard a vampire of the golden age of vampires with powers beyond all rational thought. He fights alongside the organization after being defeated by its founder Van Hellsing and now tests his skills against the best this generation has to offer

Thoughts: The original anime was interesting if a little cliche, but Hellsing Ultimate is a whole new box of crazy. Ultimate is graphic, violent, terrifying, awe inspiring...... probably was written by a person barely holding onto his sanity. It is an epic title if ever I have seen one, but be prepared for allot of insanity to go flying past you faster than you can digest it.

Prose: Ultimate is awe inspiring, great animation and voicing, gratuitous use of plot, a masterpiece for those willing to brave it.

Cons: This anime is DARK. Dark and twisted. be prepared fore some mind fraks.

-Notes: Hellsing is fully dubbed, Ultimate is only dubbed untill episode 4 (and its taking them a bloody long time for number 5).

8.5/10          (The dead are dancing, and all hell is singing)
